A wind turbine is a system that transforms kinetic energy from the wind into electricity.
The main difference is that VAWTs capture wind from all directions, as opposed to HAWTs, which need to face the directly into wind, and to do so, they are fitted with an orientation device. Added to that, a VAWT functions with turbulent winds, unlike HAWT, which require laminar wind flow. Another difference arises measuring noise levels, a VAWT generates very low noise (contrary to HAWTs), and do not require cranes nor guy-wires, making them safer and suitable for many purposes.
